Hi everyone! How are you all doing? It is so cold in Japan that I want to stay in my house forever. I hope spring will come as soon as possible. :P
Anyway, today I'm going to do my mascara reviews. It is going to be my favorite mascaras and NON favorite mascaras.
Mascara is one of my favorite makeup products. Wearing mascara makes me feel more comfortable and confident about myself. You can basically change your look by applying some mascaras. Your eyes look bigger and your lashes are fuller with the magic of mascara. I cannot say thank you enough to the person who invented mascara, really.
I'm very picky when it comes to mascaras. I have super straight eyelashes and they grow straight down. And so it's important that my mascaras can hold the curl all day long. I'm always jealous of people who have naturally curled eyelashes! Also, I HATE using eyelash curler AFTER I applied my mascara. I know some people don't mind doing that but I just hate it. So my mascara should hold the curl all day so that I don't have to do that. I haven't tried a lot of mascaras just because when I have my favorite one, I just stick to it and repurchase the same one again and again.
When I look for a mascara, here are a couple of things that I look for.
- Waterproof. Non waterproof ones never worked on my lashes in the past.
- Curling power. As I mentioned, my lashes grow straight down so I need something that would keep the curl all day.
- Smudge proof. No one really want smudging, right ladies?
- Little bit of Volume and Length. My top concern is the holding the curl part so I don't really mind the rest but I still like some volume and length.
- Brush. I prefer the softer brush, not the plasticky ones.
And here are my mascaras. Just for the disclaimer, I don't use all of them at a time. I saved them so that I can do my mascara review. I use all of them regularly except my non favorite ones.
The left three ones are my non favorite mascaras.
The middle four are my okay favorites which means I like it but let me explain type of mascaras.
The right ones are my favorite ones.
I also included the close up photo of the brushes so that you can see how it's like :) hope you like it.
I added * to the products that you can get in Japan for those of you who live in Japan !!
Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Jumbo Lash Mascara in Black
--- I wanted to like this because to be honest because it's such a healthy formula for my lashes but it does smudges on me and it doesn't hold the curl since it's not waterproof. If you don't have these issues on mascara, you may like this mascara.
Rimmel Scandaleyes Show Off Mascara in 003 extreme black
---I heard a lot of good thing about this mascara so I was so excited to try this. I have to say that I love the brush. It has this unique rounded end and the brush is so big. But I just did not work well on my lashes. To be specific, it does not hold the curl.
Covergirl Clump Crusher by lashblast in very black
---I heard so many good things about this mascara from YouTube beauty gurus and I was like, I'll try it! And they didn't have the waterproof version at my target so I just got a regular one and that's probably why I don't like this. It does smudge and it doesn't hold the curl. This creates a very natural looking lashes and I like it but only if it holds the curl. I'd love to try the waterproof version.
*Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara in 009 over black
---I got a free sample at a Dior counter the other day along with their famous primer. I asked the guy who worked there if this mascara would hold the curl since it wasn't waterproof. He said that this mascara is supposed to curl your lashes no matter what. And he even said that some people don't use eyelash curler because this brush is so good at curling your lashes. And I tried it and I love it! It doesn't make my lashes clump or stick together, and it does something to my lashes ; lengthening and volumizing. The only downside is that I notice that it does not hold the curl the best actually. It does curl my lashes but it does not last all day long. Again, if you don't have some issues like me, you'll love this. Overall, amazing mascara and I love it.
*Lancôme Hypnôse Star Mascara in black
---I love this mascara SO MUCH. I got this sample size on in my Birch Box ages ago. It's lengthening, it gives the volume to my lashes. Again the ONLY down side is that it's not very good at holding the curl but I feel like this mascara deserve the love from all of you out there. It's such an amazing one. I usually use another mascara that is very good at holding the curl and layer this hypnôse mascara on it, and it create such a gorgeous lashes.
Maybelline Full 'N Soft Mascara Hydrofuge in very black
---This mascara is great when you want super natural looking lashes which almost look like you don't wear makeup. So subtle and it just creates the better version of your lashes. If you want some volume to your lashes, I'd say this one is not for you. It does hold my curl nice but again not the best. Highly recommend to those of you who like to wear minimum amount of makeup and who have naturally curled eyelashes.
*YSL Shocking Mascara
---This is probably the most high-end mascara that I own in my collection. I got this while I was in the States because it's a bit cheaper there. First of all, I am IN LOVE with the gorgeous packaging. It's so luxurious and lovely. I really like how it makes my lashes long and gives lots of volume. Also the brush is slim compare to other mascara brushes and it has the unique curvy/ twisty brush (I don't know how to explain this) and it really helps get the nice amount of mascara from the package and applies it very nice and smooth. This is definitely more on the wet formula but I like that. It's a very special mascara so I only wear it on a special day such as going out with the girls and stuff. I just think I can't say enough good thing about this mascara, except the fact that it doesn't hold the curl. But to be honest, I can totally ignore the fact because other than that, it's so amazing.
Maybelline the Falsies Flared Mascara (waterproof) in very black
---This is the best mascara EVER. I touched the brush but it's very similar to the YSL one. The shape of the brush is slightly curved and easy to apply to your lashes. I'd say that this is not very volumizing but still makes my lashes very long and slightly thick which I like. AND most importantly, it holds the curl amazingly all day long, and it doesn't smudge. Unfortunately, it's not available in Japan and this one on the photo is already dried out since this I think I used up ages ago.
*Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara in black
--- I saw Missglmorazzi recommended this in one of her videos and it looked amazing on her so I decided to give it a go. It's simply amazing. It makes my bottom lashes amazingly long and it never smudge. Also, it's easy to remove with some warm water but I usually use my oil makeup remover.
*Maybelline the Rocket Mascara (waterproof) in 411 very black
---This is also my favorite favorite mascara. The brush is very fat (if that's the word to describe the mascara brush) and it gets slightly thinner and subtle on the tip as you can see from the close up photo down below. The brush is pretty soft considering that it's a plastic type of brush. It doesn't clump or anything. It's their volume express mascara but it's actually very good at lengthening. It doesn't smudge at all and it holds the curl all day long. I just love it.
Just for the side note for those of you life in Japan……. Japanese Maybelline promoted this mascara pretty recently so I went out and see how it's like at a store. And I'm pretty sure that they changed the formula. They have both waterproof and non waterproof but I found that Japanese Maybelline's waterproof one is not as good as the one that I got in the States. I don't know if this is true but that's one opinion from a mascara junky here. haha
So that is the end of my mascara review and I really hope you enjoyed it and found it somewhat helpful :) Please leave me some comment telling me YOUR favorite mascara because I'd love to know!
